The Bulls Head (City Tavern) - history

The pub has alternated with the names City Tavern or Bulls Head for years.

It is at the corner of Tennant Street and Bishopsgate Street, and was in Ladywood (now part of Westside).

The public house was built in 1901, it was rebuilt internally in 1984.

Designed by James and Lister Lea for the Ansells Brewery.

Externally faced in terracotta with glazed red brick and a Lancashire slate roof, in the Baroque style.

Inside is a pool room which survives from 1901.

Ansells sold the pub to a syndicate from ITV in 1984.

In the 21st century, the pub has been owned by the Davenports brewery.

It was called the City Tavern until 2016, when it was renamed to The Bulls Head after a refurbishment.
